My dream as a kid was to become an MLB Umpire. After finishing my Recreation & Sports Admin program from Vancouver Island University, I attended the Academy of Professional Umpiring and was fortunate to graduate with honours and be awarded a Minor League Spring Training assignment. I spent 5 years in MiLB reaching the AA level and was an Instructor, before leaving in 2001.
When I left baseball in 2001 I decided to build a financial planning practice. This eventually became a multi-advisor office and I sold the client base in 2015 to a private equity firm for 3x earnings. It wasn't easy in the early years as everyone knew me in my hometown as the "Umpire." The best thing I did was to move from Qualicum Beach to Victoria, and then finally Vancouver, as it allowed me to reinvent myself and expand my network. I was more afraid of not making it, then the fear of the unknown when moving to a new city. I guess being an Umpire, I never knew what was coming next but I was confident in my training that I could handle anything. Ask me about Portland and Battle Creek and Lansing! This certainly carried over into business.
Alongside my planning practice, I also held leadership roles focussed on practice management, sales manager development, advisor training and recruiting. I served CIBC, WFG Securities, Sun Life, Desjardins, Foresters and Coast Capital over a 16 year period.
Feeding my entrepreneurial drive and wanting to play a bigger game, I went outside the box and became a founding franchise partner with Shack Shine, a 1800 Got Junk Brand. This experience allowed to me learn first hand the mechanics of being an owner-operator in fast paced business.
Where I am today is a result of a lifetime of work and bringing in all of the pieces together. Partnering with the likes of Tony Robbins Business Mastery, and Reina Trust allow me to have an offer for Solopreneurs that I am quite proud of. I've written two books, have been awarded Master Networker of the Year, two years in a row by Business Networking International. Have appeared on the W Network's "Next expert Challenge," CBC News and 1410AM radio in Vancouver.
Ultimately it's all about family and living a good healthy life full of amazing experiences. We get one shot at this thing called life so my passion is to live full out and help others do the same. With 11 nieces and nephews and Riley our Jack Russell, my husband Sean and I always have an adventure up our sleeves.
